A Limited Company provides a legally independent structure through which contractors are able to deliver services to customers.  It is the company which contracts with customers, rather than the individual contractor.  The company takes on the risk and is free to work as it chooses.  The owners of the company (shareholders) share in the profits of the business at a tax rate which is generally lower than that suffered by an employee.
